Rebound relationships – do they ever work

Few would bet on Katie Price spending much longer with her cage fighter rebound boyfriend Alex Reid. A-Reid seems to be what A-Rod was to the freshly-divorced Madonna - who has since rebounded into Jesus Luz's even younger pair of pumped-up arms.

But some rebounds do seem to work, even when there are celebrities involved. When Mel B married Stephen Belafonte minutes after splitting from Eddie Murphy, her mum Andrea called it "a big mistake", but they're still married after two years. Celeb marital years are like dog years, so that's not bad going.

Rebound couples Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, Kym Marsh and Jamie Lomas and Michelle Heaton and Hugh Hanley all seem to be going strong, despite prompting "give it a fortnight" comments when they got together.

So getting involved with someone new immediately after a break-up isn't necessarily a fast-track to misery, but you need to tread carefully. Here are some dos and don'ts on riding the rebound rollercoaster.
