A man accused of attacking a hospital reception desk with an axe will appear before magistrates on Friday.

Derek Hunt, 46, of Bedford was charged with criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon after an incident at the accident and emergency department of Bedford Hospital.

Police were called after he allegedly used an axe to smash cameras and the security glass protecting the reception desk in the A&E department. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Bedfordshire Police said he will be remanded in police custody to appear at Bedford Magistrates' Court on Friday.
